Things in Nature to Be Thankful For
The season of harvest, cooler weather, warm foods, and warmer hearts is something I look forward to at this time of year. Thanksgiving is the time to reflect on the past, and the time to change our outlook for the future. Being thankful for what we have in our lives is a great way to get in touch with our inner spirit and nourish our mental well-being. Here are just 3 of the many things in nature we can all be thankful for:
1. Bright and Vibrant Colours of the Changing Leaves
Fall is one of my favourite seasons to see nature's beauty manifest in the form of colourful leaves, and I am thankful for nature's artistic display. Take a brisk walk through a local park or nearby woodlot to get in a breath of fresh air and admire the varying colours of the leaves. Also, take note of how the colours make you feel and calm yourself in the serenity that nature provides.
Since the days get shorter and shorter during this time of year, I look forward to the sun rising each morning to soak up as much of the sun's rays as possible. It is important to get enough vitamin D in the winter months since we are getting fewer hours of sunlight each day. Look out for more info on vitamin D in future blog posts!
3. Warm Foods and Drinks
As the weather becomes cooler, our internal systems try to keep up with the change to maintain homeostasis, or what we call... balance! I'm thankful for warm foods and beverages as they can help with digestion and may even be very soothing and therapeutic. Ginger is a perfect example of a warming food that aids in digestion and also in immune function. Take advantage of this super food in your meals or use it to add some zing to your tea!
